GEORGE TOWN- Science education is being transformed into an exciting hands-on experience at Tech Dome Penang, a leading science and technology discovery centre located within the iconic KOMTAR tower in Pearl Island. The facility has become a major attraction for school students eager to explore the wonders of science beyond textbooks.

Recently, more than 40 students from Sekolah Kebagsaan Alma and SK Pauh Jaya accompanied by their teachers visited the centre as part of an educational trip.

Many of them were first time visitors and described the experieence as exciting  and mindblowing exposure about Science here.\"I learned many new things here and it was very fun and entertaining because we would try  everything ourselves.

"This is my first time visiting here," said Tarahishaa Shanmugam, 12 a year Siix student. She also added that the visit helped her understand science and robotics outside of classroom learning.

Established as part of efforts to strengthen science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, Tech Dome Penang serves as an interactive learning hub where students can engage directly with scientific concepts.

The centre was developed through a collaboration between the state government and industry partners, reflecting Malaysia’s commitment to nurturing future innovators. Inside the dome, visitors are greeted with more than 120 interactive exhibits covering a wide range of topics including physics, robotics, biology, and space science.

Unlike traditional classrooms, students are encouraged to touch, test, and experiment, turning complex theories into simple, enjoyable learning experiences. One of the key highlights of Tech Dome Penang is its ability to make science fun and relatable. From testing reflexes to exploring optical illusions and understanding how the human body works, each exhibit is designed to spark curiosity.

Students can even participate in activities that demonstrate real-world applications of science, making learning both meaningful and memorable.

Educational visits to Tech Dome allow students to see science in action, helping them better understand concepts that are often difficult to grasp through textbooks alone. The facility also hosts workshops, science demonstrations, and special programs tailored for young learners mostly for students with special educational packages.

Beyond education, Tech Dome Penang plays an important role in inspiring students to consider careers in science and technology. By exposing them to innovations such as robotics and engineering systems, the centre encourages the next generation to think creatively and solve real-world problems.

Parents have also welcomed the initiative, noting that it provides a productive and engaging environment for children. Many families see visits to the science centre as an opportunity to combine learning with entertainment, making it a popular destination during school holidays and weekends.
